Molly's Sunflowers
Tuesday, I was lucky enough to be invited to the Copper Guinea Farm in Atkinson, NC to paint their field of sunflowers. Unfortunately, I had an appointment and had to arrive too late to paint but did get to photograph this quaint farm, complete with a field of sunflowers. A group of painters from Wilmington had already been hard at work and most had nice paintings in various stages of completion. Molly, our host and owner of the farm was hard at work making lunch for our group. A beautiful, brown cow followed our every move and seemed to pose for the camera. She was more interested in posing than munching on the grass. It was in the 90's so sitting in the shade was a requirement. When I entered Molly's kitchen, there was a gorgeous blue pottery vase full of the sunny blooms. I couldn't resist a photo and couldn't wait to paint them. The attached photo is and 12x16 acrylic painting of Molly's sunflowers. Lunch was delicious. A salad with homemade dressing complete with homegrown cherry tomatos, blackberries, blueberries and pecans. I just had to bring home a loaf of homemade wheat bread. We were spoiled by her lemon, blueberry pound cake for dessert.
Thanks again, Molly for sharing your lovely farm with us. Hope to visit again!
