Day 30 - Mike and Molly

Another view of the green row boat coming in through the late morning fog. This one is smaller and a little different.

Finished this 30 day challenged and learned some things about myself and painting. I love having a purpose to motivate me. Deadlines are good. Somedays the paintings just flow off your brush, others are a struggle. I'm always striving to keep it loose. It clicked about day 25. After painting in the studio from photos, I feel a need to get out and paint. Too bad it's too icy to o anywhere. I have less photos I want to paint, I did 30 of them. There's one on the easel now waiting for me! Loved it most of the time!

Day 29 - Wave Jumper

Don't remember where I took this image but feel the excitement of this girl as she jumps over the waves. Warm thoughts while we are experiencing a rare snow in coastal NC.

Day 28 - Savannah Sounds

Strolling on the river in Savannah, attracted by the sounds of the saxaphone...the late afternoon sun, on a chilly November day, glistened off the saxaphone. Sweet, soulful sounds...

Day 27 - Below the Pier

Before they had to take down and rebuild the Crystal Pier, I was enjoying an off season day in the sun. So were a bunch of local college students. They were having some kind of back to school mixer at the beach.  Some pale students who obviously didn't see that much sun were enjoying the afternoon in their new town. This is the 3rd painting I did that day and it seemed to paint itself. Kept it loose and thoroughly enjoyed the process. This is why I paint!

If you love this painting, too bad...it's not for sale...at least not yet!

Day 24 - Just Cheeky

Sitting on the beach, I observed an attractive young couple approaching. I shoot pictures for reference while enjoying the sun. As they moved past me, I shot a picture and noticed how poorly her bikini covered her derriere...thus, "Just Cheeky".

If you love this painting, click on Works, New Work and the painting and the price will appear.

Day 23 - Bald Head Island Lighthouse

This is the lighthouse on Bald Head Island. My work is in All About Art on BHI so I've been wanting to paint this for awhile. Come spring, it will go to the island.

Yesterday was an unbelievable day in the studio where things really clicked. The first week or so of this challenge, I painted things that were for shows, ads and responsibilities. Then I painted things I loved in all the styles I love, palette knife, acrylics etc. Yesterday, I had 2 paintings ready to go so I could get right to work. Honestly, I'm going out of town tomorrow so I needed to get ahead. The first painting was good and quickly rendered. The second was so much fun and simple in style. After dinner, I had to go out to the studio and do another. I was in the ZONE!!! These will be posted in the next few days so stayed tuned. Now to do one more...

Day 21 - Green Row Boat

The green row boat that sat at the dock waiting for it's owner to row out to his sailboat was a source of fascination to us artists. It's weathered green paint spoke of many days on the water. Couldn't resist painting this with palette knife.

If you love this painting, go to Work, New Work and click on it. Purchasing information will appear.

Day 20 - Yellow Flag Day

2/3 of the way done to the 30 day challenge. Life guard fly different color flags to indicate the level of danger at the beach. I think a yellow flag must mean to exercise caution. Looks like a perfect day to me.

Day 16 - Kristin's Window

I told you I was running out of places to dry oil paintings so I resorted to painting with acrylics again and am having a ball. Kristin's Window is from a photo I took in November when I visited the NoBoundaries artists colony on Bald Head Island. My very talented artist friend, Kristin Gibson had spent 2 weeks there and generously shared her work with us visitors. I was captivated by her view from her bedroom window as well. It looked out onto the shaols in the distance. Remembering a cold, clear day on Bald Head Island.

Day 15 - Family Tree

Above the farm is a gorgeous old apple tree. Uncle Felix says the apples are organic because they aren't sprayed. Actually, they are wormy. My sister took a photo of the tree in winter after they had pruned it. This is for you, Barb!

This painting is not for sale.

Day 11 - Show Me the Way

Another one done with a palette knife. Love painting sea turtles. They nest on our beaches and when they hatch and make their way to the sea, they create a lot of excitement. This one is 30"x30" and will be featured in an art guide ad.

Day 10 - On Guard

On Guard was from a photo taken on a mild winter day at Kure Beach. The lady and her dog were enjoying the sunny day. This the last of the fishermen series. All are 6x8 oils.

This challenge is teaching me lots of lessons. My studio is a mess from all the activity and no time to waste organizing. I have no room to dry anymore paintings, partly because some are large. I need a day to not paint and catch up on show entries, and life in general. I am focused and enjoy spending every day in the studio. So many lessons and more to learn. Fortunately, my husband is doing laundry and grocery shopping. I think I'll owe him big time in Feb.

If you are interested in this painting, go to work, new work, find the painting and click on it. The price and buy now button will appear.
