RESIST

RESIST
RESIST

Because of the holidays, I don't get much done in the studio in December. January finds me itching to get back to work. For the past three years I participated in a 30 paintings in 30 day challenge to get me motivated again. This year, the artist that sponsored this challenge was out of the country so she won't be doing it until February. I knew I needed to get to work so I started, not doing a painting a day but getting in the studio and working on larger paintings. I wasn't feeling terribly inspired and painted over the same painting 3 times and I still wasn't pleased.
This past weekend was the 2nd annual women's march in cities around the country. Women marched for equality in all aspects of our lives. Women marched to have their voices heard. Women like Emily who is pictured in my painting "RESIST". Her mom posted her picture on Facebook and I was instantly inspired. Because the photo belongs to Emily, I asked and received her gracious permission to use her image. When asked what she resisted, Emily said, The women's march today celebrated a lot! To explain what it's about I can show you easier. :)

I resist anyone/anything that tells little girls, like the one pictured that she can't be everything she wants to be! That includes growing into a strong woman who is paid equally as men are.

It's all about EQUALITY. Not saying women are better than men are.
Emily was that little girl when I first met her and her amazing mom. Emily was a tiny 7 pounds and was 7 months old. She had been born prematurely and was facing a myriad of health issues. No one ever told her that she couldn't be or do anything. Despite her early birth and challenges she faced, Emily grew into the remarkable young women in the painting who marched for what she believes.
Thank you for letting me use your photo...you truly are an inspiration! ❤️
